Responsible for: assisting Rector in managing CAS’s operations including overseeing academic affairs, coordinating administrative activities, implementing policies and handling students’ services and affairs, research and academic management.

  1. MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

 

The Deputy Rector provides strategic academic leadership and overseas administrative management to support CAS’s mission and vision.  The involves implementing policies, fostering relationships, ensuring quality quality assurance, and managing student affairs and library services to promote conducive learning and research environment.

 

 

  1. DUTIES

 

Key duties and responsibilities

 

Academic Leadership

·         Assist the Rector in setting academic priorities and strategic initiatives

·         Oversee academic policy development and implementation

·         Support curriculum development and research promotion, and development of new programmes

·         Foster an innovative and collaborative academic culture

·         Promote innovation in teaching and learning to ensure a rich student-centred environment across the country;

·         Oversee the recruitment process in order to hire qualified professors, lecturer’s, instructors, staff and other personnel within the department of academic affairs

·         Confer regularly with academic staff to plan, coordinate and evaluate instructional facilities to support teaching and learning activities;

 

 

Administrative Management

·         Oversee day to day administrative operations ensuring efficiency and compliance

·         Coordinate between departments to streamline processes and resource allocation

·         Manage staff and faculty reports, evaluations and development plans

 

Policy Implementation

·         Assist in translating CAS policies into operational practices

·         Ensure adherence to CAS regulations and accreditation standards

·         Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of policies and suggest improvements

 

Relationship Building

·         Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders including government agencies, accreditation bodies, partner institutions, and community organisations.

·         Facilitate community/civic and industry engagement, including development of partnership with business and industry as well as other institutions

·         Represent CAS at official functions and meetings

 

Quality Assurance

·         Establish and oversee quality assurance mechanisms across academic and administrative units

·         Promote continuous improvement through feedback and assessment processes

·         Ensure compliance with academic standards and quality benchmarks

 

Students Affairs and Library

·         Oversee student support services, academic counselling, and extracurricular activities

·         Ensure a safe, inclusive and enriching environment for students

·         Supervise library services to support research, learning, and information access needs

·         Undertake any other responsibilities as assigned by the Rector and other relevant institution’s authorities.

 

 

  1. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND DESIRABLE ATTRIBUTES

 

Skills requirements

 

(i)            Ability to formulate and communicate a clear academic vision within a teaching and research setting;

 

(ii)          Willingness to take on the challenge of laying the academic and research foundations of a new CAS;

 

(iii)         Have a strong commitment to higher education and the ability to lead and inspire the Academic Affairs team;

 

(iv)         Must exhibit strong leadership skills, extensive administrative experience in higher education administration or directly related to the responsibilities of the position;

 

(v)          Excellent entrepreneurial skills including proven budgetary, management and teamwork skills in an academic institution, and clear understanding of the social, financial and political implications on decisions made;

 

(vi)         Knowledge of academic programme development, implementation, management and assessment at both the undergraduate and graduate/post graduate levels;

 

(vii)        Proven skills in strategic management and coordination of academic activities, budgets and liaising with relevant academic sponsors or institutions are essential;

 

(viii)       Ability to collaborate and relate effectively with all the CAS stakeholders including external bodies / regulatory or government institutions / senior industry executives and the wider community is a key requirement in order to achieve CAS goals and objectives.

 

(ix)         Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to generate required consensus on strategic initiatives among diverse stakeholders including executive management, faculty staff and students and maximise available resources;

 

(x)          Commitment to the delivery of quality educational support services with effective organisational and management skills including planning, assessment, financial and personnel resources management; ability to demonstrate innovation and creativity in the pursuit of the institution’s academic goals and objectives is a key requirement;

 

(xi)         Must have high visibility and presence on campus and show commitment to a campus community that welcome and celebrate diversity;

 

(xii)        Must demonstrate personal commitment to excellence.

 

Education/experience

 

(i)            Masters’ Degree/Professional Qualification, earned Doctorate or equivalent terminal degree in a relevant discipline, demonstrating scholarly credibility.

 

(ii)          Must have a minimum of 10 years’ experience in a senior administrative leadership or a professional in teaching, with significant experience in research administration, training, consultancy and fund raising.
