- MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
1. Responsible for developing course materials, delivering lectures, facilitating discussions, and assessing students’ performance. 2. To teach courses in business communication, business management and related fields. |
- KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
Teaching and Learning
1. Teach undergraduate, professional and/or postgraduate courses in business communication and business management; 2. Develop curriculum and course materials that enhance students’ understanding of key concepts; 3. Conduct research in areas related to business communication and management practices; 4. Mentor and advise students on academic and career goals; 5. Participate in departmental meetings, academic assessments and other institutional activities; 6. Engage in community outreach a professional development activities’; 7. Stay current on advancements in business communication and management disciplines.
Consultancy, short courses and research
1. Participate in activities that aid 3rd income stream generation; 2. Develop, design and deliver or facilitate at least 2 non-scheduled courses; 3. Develop, design and deliver or facilitate at least 1 non-scheduled course or training consultancies per annum, and undertakes 1 research project for publication, presentation and for CAS use as approved by APM/Deputy Rector and in compliance with the research projects guidelines of CAS.
Administrative and General support
1. Maintain regular office hours for consultation by students and undertaking administrative duties; 2. Contribute to the development of CAS by participating in meetings, committees, task forces and working groups as required; 3. Represent CAS at external meetings or committees if so delegated.
Performance Management and Personal Development
1. Undertake peer review assignments of other lecturers and subjects him/herself to the peer review as scheduled by the APM/Deputy Rector; 2. Agrees to the performance standards and targets at the start of each half year with the Management and subjects him/herself to performance evaluation; 3. Undertake Professional Self-Development activities approved by CAS Management; 4. To assume a designated leadership role in the relevant academic areas required; 5. Undertake other relevant duties as required, this may include the role of subject/ module coordinator and or Programme Manager/Coordinator.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES RELATING TO SCHEDULED COURSES
The lecturer assigned for each course has the primary responsibility for ensuring that the course is planned, organised and delivered to the standards required by the Centre. The responsibilities of each Lecturer will include:
- At least three weeks before the start of each teaching semester/term/programme, preparation of a teaching scheme for the course based on review and interpretation of the syllabus, which will specify the topics to be covered, the methodology to be used, the assigned readings etc.
- At least two weeks before the start of each teaching semester/term/programme, a lecturer must deposit a copy of the teaching scheme in the library and with APM/Deputy Rector.
- At least one week before the start of each teaching semester/term, a lecturer must hand over a class file that contains the teaching scheme and the assigned readings, tests, assignments etc that are scheduled for the students for the course.
- On the first day of class, giving a copy of the teaching scheme to each student.
- Advance preparation of all assignments and test material to be used during the course.
- Preparation of teaching material eg. slides, handouts etc
- Punctuality and attendance of all scheduled courses.
- Delivery of the programme of lectures.
- Taking class attendance, and reporting any attendance anomalies to the class coordinator.
- Maintaining discipline in class and reporting any problems s/he can’t solve to the class coordinator.
- Liaising with others lecturers who teach the same subject.
- Liaising with the class coordinator in relation to the administrative aspects of the course organisation and delivery.
- Attendance at regular meetings with the class coordinator and APM/Deputy Rector to review progress.
- Being available at reasonable times to meet with individual students concerning course related matters.
- Reviewing current professional journals, student newsletters etc. to monitor articles and developments relevant to the examinations.
- Ensuring that the teaching scheme is kept under continuing review and updated as appropriate.
- Setting and managing examinations for students.
- Undertakes an in-depth analysis and review of examination papers, examination regulations and examiners’ reports and uses these for improving delivery.
- Preparation of an end of course report for submission to APM/Deputy Rector within two weeks after the end of the course.
- QUALIFICATIONS, ATTRIBUTES AND EXPERIENCE
The role requires somebody who is able to adapt to the changing needs of CAS; · Minimum of a Master’s Degree in Business Communication, Business Management/Leadership or a related field. Experience and attributes · Previous teaching experience at an Institution of Higher Learning level is highly desirable · Strong background in business communication/management, along with experience in educational settings · Experience in curriculum development and instructional design · Professional experience in business or management roles will be an added advantage · Self-driven, proactive, innovative, solution oriented and digitally savvy · Must be prepared to work beyond working hours and/or weekends if necessary
