RESPONSIBLE FOR:  Responsible for performing a variety of accounting, bookkeeping and financial tasks

  1. MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Keeping financial records updated, preparing reports and reconciling bank statements.  Also runs accounting software programmes (e.g. Pastel) to process business transactions, liker accounts payable and receivable, disbursements, expense vouchers and receipts.  A successful Finance Assistant should be familiar with all accounting procedures and have a flair for numbers.  A successful Finance Assistant will ensure that CAS daily accounting functions run accurately and effectively.

 

 

 

 

  1. DUTIES
3.1 Provide accounting and clerical support to the Financial Accounting Unit

3.2 Type accurately and prepare and maintain accounting documents and records

3.3 Prepare bank deposits, general ledger postings and statements

3.4 Under the guidance of Finance Officer (Financial Accounting), reconcile accounts in a

Timely manner

3.5 Enter key data of the financial transactions in Pastel

3.6 Provide assistance and support to company personnel

3.7 Under the supervision of Finance Officer (Financial Accounting), manage petty cash transactions

3.8 Any other duties that fall within the remit of Financial Accounting as may be assigned from time to time.

3.9 Any other other duties meant to meet CAS objectives which may be assigned from time to time.

 

 

  1. Qualifications and Experience
 

CIMA Operations, Certified Accounting Technician or ACCA Diploma in Accounting, Finance or a related field with at least 5 years’ experience within purchasing, budgeting, financial reporting, cash management

OR

General Accountant/Bachelor Degree in Accounting with at least 2 years relevant experience.

 

Other skills

·         Excellent computer skills, Microsoft office suite knowledge

·         Competency in accounting software implementation plus (Pastel)

·         Familiarity with bookkeeping and basic accounting procedures

·         Accuracy and attention to detail

·         Aptitude for numbers

·         Ability to perform filing and record keeping tasks

·         Data entry and word processing skills

·         Well organised

·         Attention to detail

·         Deadline oriented

·         Excellent written and verbal communication skills

·         Ability to analyse figures

·         Good knowledge of accounting principle
